Linear TV Market Insights Germany

Pretty much every day we learn about new digital initiatives in the video market trying to bypass the traditional model of channels as content aggregators for linear distribution. E.g. Viacom launched Paramount+ in the Nordics as a direct to consumer service and just recently production house UFA announced the start of its own OTT VoD service for Germany.

But the buzz and the appearance of new services does not entirely match with existing consumption patterns especially in Germany. Linear consumption accounts still for the majority of viewing time. Therefor it is still worth to closely monitor the status and the development of the linear market, especially after the recently announced plans of public service broadcaster ARD to evaluate the termination of SD distribution via satellite. We had a look at SD/HD structures in the German Linear TV market and pricing segmentation within HD Pay-TV channels.
